Biography
James Whitfield is a British entrepreneur and clean energy pioneer best known as the co-founder of EcoEnergy Ventures AB, a Swedish-headquartered renewable energy company with solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects active on four continents. He co-founded the company in 2012 alongside Swedish engineer Anna Lindqvist.
Born in Bristol, England in 1981, Whitfield studied mechanical engineering at the University of Bristol before earning a Master's degree in Energy Systems from Imperial College London. He worked for Shell's renewable energy division and the UK Department of Energy before founding EcoEnergy.
EcoEnergy Ventures has raised over โฌ620 million in project financing and equity investment, completed 38 renewable energy projects, and currently operates assets with a combined capacity of 2.4GW across Europe, Africa, India, and South America. Whitfield has been named Energy Entrepreneur of the Year by the Financial Times three times and serves on the advisory board of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
